Sky High

Immersive playspace

  • Company: Play9 Studios

  • Role: Industrial Designer

  • Client: Perth International Airport

  • Location: Perth, WA, Australia

  • Year: 2023

A sensorial playspace that invites curiosity through form, material, and light. Timber brings warmth and familiarity, while Corian introduces a sense of precision and quiet technology. When active, digital reveals itself as a moment of surprise; when still, everything rests in a calm, analog white.

The curved forms are shaped to encourage movement and play, gently guiding how people interact. Every detail is considered for diverse audiences, creating a space that feels responsive, calm, and quietly engaging.

The Pods

Contained playspace

  • Company: Play9 Studios

  • Role: Industrial Designer

  • Client: Forest Hill

  • Location: Melbourne, VIC, Australia

  • Year: 2020

The Pods is a compact playspace that delivers high play value in a small footprint. Retro inspired forms with bold curves and soft angles create trust and emotional connection, while perforated steel, tinted windows, and tactile materials invite exploration.

Natural light, colour, and varied climbing elements guide movement and spark curiosity. Technology appears subtly as a playful surprise, supporting collaboration without overshadowing the physical experience. The design is thoughtful for both children and parents, creating a durable, imaginative, and welcoming environment.

Tree of Seasons

Public Interactive Installation

  • Company: TKM9 Group

  • Role: Industrial Designer

  • Client: Melbourne Central

  • Location: Melbourne, VIC, Australia

  • Year: 2020

Tree of Seasons sits between two doorways, its branches designed to follow a flowing rhythm that feels alive and unpredictable. Interactive elements respond subtly to gestures, revealing light and movement that spark curiosity without overwhelming the space.

Full-scale prototyping helped refine the depth, scale and the way gestures move across the structure. The installation creates a quiet sense of wonder, making each encounter with the space feel unique and alive.

Pulse

Public Interactive Installation

  • Company: TKM9 Group

  • Role: Industrial Designer

  • Client: Melbourne Central

    Location: Melbourne, VIC, Australia

  • Year: 2020

Pulse explores how form, technology and interaction can work together without one dominating the other. The ribbons rise into the console, designed to feel light and intuitive while maintaining a visual clarity.

The console itself balances straight and curved lines, with black glass adding depth and a futuristic quality that enhances the narrative. The piece interprets movement from the sculpture, giving the elevation a ghost-like presence that extends the original form. Every detail was considered to make the interaction feel magical yet subtle, letting technology amplify the experience rather than define it.

Sensory Turtle

Interactive play

  • Studio: Play9 Studios

  • Role: Industrial designer

  • Location: Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

    Year: 2022

Sensory Turtle is a play product designed to create an engaging experience without screens. Without them, questions guided every decision: what does each sound express and at what volume? How does a pulsing light feel compared to a static one? How can colour guide attention and play?

Its nine-sided form was inspired by the company name, Play9, and allows users to interact with all faces from a single spot. The symmetrical shape balances playful exploration with practical considerations for manufacturing. The result is an inviting, sensorial product that encourages curiosity and discovery.
